Rosefest 2019: Engage in your community’s success
Rosefest is the annual event where Roseville community members come together to get to know each other, catch up and celebrate the city.
There’s no better way to do so than by coming out together for the summer fun around this year’s festival theme, “Engaging in Our Community’s Success.”
“This theme/slogan also just happens to be one of our long-standing community aspirations,” tweeted Mayor Dan Roe.
Rosefest 2019 will return with favorite activities and get-togethers, along with some new events and a slight re-jiggering of the schedule.
“We’re kicking off with the parade this year,” said Roseville Recreation Superintendent Lauren Deal.
She explained that the move of rolling out the Rose Parade and holding it on Monday, June 24, prior to the Rosefest week of activities, was done to better accommodate the Fourth of July, as had been done in previous years.
Longtime Roseville resident Monte Johnson — aka this year’s King Boreas from the St. Paul Winter Carnival — will be a grand marshal of the parade, along with the Brausen family, whose automotive service shops have kept the area running for more than 50 years.
Johnson as Boreas will again be appearing on Tuesday, June 25, at Central Park Lexington for a new event this year dubbed Walk Your Dog with King Boreas.
“He’s just been a big supporter of Parks and Rec and he just reached out” about putting on the event, said Deal. “He’s very passionate about his dog Murphy.”
“It’s about promoting health and wellness and keeping your dog on a leash.”
A performance at the Frank Rog Amphitheatre with the Vinnie Rose Band will follow the new Tuesday night gathering.
For Friday, June 28, the usual Resident Appreciation Day will incorporate Friday’s with Firefighters, an ongoing summer event, to give folks a chance to attend an open house-style event at the city fire station. Deal also said there’d be new wheeled attractions at the Sunday, June 30, Touch-a-Truck event.
There are a few other new elements incorporated into Rosefest family favorites — Deal said the city is always looking to please residents by offering classic staples of the event, while looking for new things to do.
